Sex no problem for those with poor heart health

Sex may be no more strenuous on the heart than a round of golf and should be considered safe for most patients with impaired cardiovascular health, according to one expert.

Sex may be no more strenuous on the heart than a round of golf and should be considered safe for most patients with impaired cardiovascular health, according to one expert. The recommendation could come as good news for individuals who receive a prescription to buy Plavix to reduce their heart attack or stroke risk.

Loyola University Health System cardiologist John Moran issued this statement following the release of a report from the American Heart Association which indicated that men and women with stable heart disease who experience few symptoms during intercourse should feel free to engage in sex with their partner.

"For a patient who has sex with a familiar partner in a familiar setting, sexual activity generally is safe and no more strenuous than golf," said Dr. Moran.

Regular sexual activity is considered a key part of a person's overall well-being, yet many people with impaired cardiovascular health may abstain. The new findings suggest that even people who buy Plavix due to an elevated risk of heart attack or stroke may be able to engage in intercourse.
